People Advisor – EXPIRED

Solely HR are supporting a company in Cornwall as they transition through significant change find a People Advisor on a 5 month FTC. The primary focus of the role will be to provide an Employee Relations to the company. In addition, the role holder will be expected to get involved in the other specialisms of the Employee Lifecycle including Resourcing, Reward, Talent Management and Employee Experience.

Responsibilities:

As a People Advisor, your main accountabilities will be as follows:

  • Under the guidance of the Senior People Partner and Employee Relations Specialist, contribute expert advice, guidance and practical support to organisational change and/or service improvement projects, in collaboration with colleagues within the HR service, that is consistent and fair across and aligned with the company values, policies, and procedures
  • Manage a varied and complex caseload extending across the full range of individual employment issues.
  • Implement appropriate interventions to secure the timely resolution of individual and collective workplace matters, promoting creative business focussed solutions that operate at the leading edge of employment practice, are fair, open and transparent and sustain a positive and healthy employee relations climate.
  • Investigate, present or advise on complex cases at formal hearings under the relevant procedures and liaise with legal advisers in relation to the management of claims to the Employment Tribunal, ensuring that the interests and reputation of the Company are safeguarded. Escalate Stage 2/ 3 Level Hearings to the Employee Relations Specialist as required.
  • Work collaboratively with managers in identifying high potential individuals, developing and providing opportunities in the relevant and the wider business.
  • Provide professional support and coaching to improve management capability and capacity to address individual and collective workplace issues and, where appropriate, promote and facilitate alternatives to the procedural routes for addressing these issues, such as mediation.
  • Undertake and support specific HR projects, as and when required.
  • Develop strong and positive relationships with managers across the business, including attendance at key meetings to advise and support on current/future activity.
  • Alongside the Employee Relations Specialist, develop positive relationships with the trade unions, promoting a partnership approach and encouraging a healthy employee relations climate.

  • Participate in the policy review and development proramme by contributing to and, from time to time, leading on policy review projects and by making recommendations for improvement drawn from operational experience or contributing guidance on their application.
  • Advise on the interpretation of terms and conditions of employment for a wide range of employment groups, ensuring fairness and equity in their application.
  • Collect and compile statistics on HR key performance indicators as required including responsibility for HR metrics, reporting internally and externally as requested/required
  • Maintain required case management records
  • Champion the principles and practice of equality and diversity and equality of opportunity.
  • Seek out opportunities for growth and development, maintain personal and professional development and share learning with others in the interests of sustaining a high level of knowledge and expertise individually and across the team.
  • Represent the HR Service internally and externally, promoting and enhancing its reputation.

Skills and Experience:

  • Has a sound understanding of employment legislation and regulatory bodies in order to manage employee relations cases
  • Broad based knowledge of employment legislation and demonstrating up to date knowledge and best practice thinking
  • Has an in-depth understanding of the company’s HR policies, procedures and practices and knows how to coach others in this area.
  • Confident and credible delivery of information to a wide range of audiences
  • Highly articulate, with excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to listen to and engage with people at all levels
  • Uses data to develop insight and support decision-making
  • Has the knowledge and skills to research, interpret, maintain and report information
  • Proficient at identifying and solving problems
  • Competent at maintaining security and confidentiality
  • Highly organised with keen attention to detail, an ability to deliver to deadlines and to prioritise effectively
  • CIPD qualified or part qualified
  • Degree qualified or demonstrable relevant experience.

The following are desirable:

  • Level 5 CIPD qualified
  • Employment Law qualification
